22 Mar 2009: Barcelona vs Malaga

Game: BARCELONA vs MALAGA
Type: SPANISH LA LIGA
Date: 22 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Its all systems go again for Barcelona as they shift up a gear towards winning the La Liga title. Despite losing 3-4 to Atletico Madrid on 1st March, the Catalans have since gone on a rampage as they trashed Lyon 5-2 in the Champions League and 2-0 each against Bilbao and Almeria in their last 3 matches. Averaging 3.00 goals per game at home, they have been almost invincible and it would take a gargantuan task for any team to get anything from Nou Camp.

Malaga will have the daunting task of putting the brakes on Barca in tonight's clash. Losing only twice in their last 13, the visitors can take courage of their recent performances to possibly give Barca something to think about when they meet. They are also unbeaten in their last 3 away, and winning the last 2.

KWIK STATS
HOME > BARCELONA

AWAY > MALAGA

THE PICK
Both Barcelona and Malaga loves to attack, which sometimes leave their defense exposed to counter attacks. I'm expecting a thrilling match with end-to-end goals. Hence,
OVER 2.5 goals is the call here.

22 Mar 2009: Bologna vs Cagliari

Game: BOLOGNA vs CAGLIARI
Type: ITALIAN SERIE A
Date: 22 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Bologna will need no reminder as they recall the 1-5 mauling they received from Cagliari back in Nov 2008. Sitting on 17th position and 2pts above the relegation zone, the host is aware that every match from now on will be like a final to them. The team have shown glimpses of good form but a series of tough fixtures lately has seen them struggling to climb to safety. Despite only 3 wins at home so far, they are averaging a respectable 1.40 goals per match.

Cagliari, on the other hand, have had a series of fortunate results in their favour which saw them peaking to 9th spot. Most of their points have come from home, where they have amassed 8 wins and a total of 27pts. On the road, however, is where their problem lies. They concede an average of 1.71 goals per away match and scoring only a meagre 1.14 goals.

KWIK STATS
HOME > BOLOGNA

AWAY > CAGLIARI

THE PICK
Despite Cagliari's loftier position in the league,
BOLOGNA looks capable of securing the much needed win at home. After all, Cagliari are known to be poor travelers in the league and head-to-head results favours the host.

22 Mar 2009: Lyon vs Sochaux

Game: LYON vs SOCHAUX
Type: FRANCE LIGUE 1
Date: 22 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Alarm bells are ringing as defending champions Lyon's lead in the league have evaporated after last night's results left them in 3rd place when their rivals all won. Lyon have lost their last 4 on the trot in all competitions, and knows how significant a win is required tonight if they want to regain the top position.

Sochaux will be looking to inflict further wound to the host as they themselves are caught in the relegation quagmire. Away from home, they have surprisingly scored in all league matches, averaging 1.07 goals per match. Sochaux have also yet to draw in their last 10 matches, and will probably be happy if they could snatch a point against Lyon.

KWIK STATS
HOME > LYON

AWAY > SOCHAUX

THE PICK
Its crunch time now as the league heads its final stretch. With so much at stake and little to separate the top 4,
LYON will want to ensure that they maintain a healthy lead from their closest rivals. Go with the home team to stamp their authority in this match.

22 Mar 2009: Genoa vs Udinese

Game: GENOA vs UDINESE
Type: ITALIAN SERIE A
Date: 22 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Genoa's 1-0 win against Cagliari last weekend meant that they're back to the coveted 4th spot in the Serie A league. Their ascend is largely attributed by their stout defensive play which has seen them concede the 3rd least amount of goals in the league. A win against Udinese tonight will cement their 4th position as the league heads into its final stretch of games.

Buoyed by their progress in the UEFA Cup, Udinese will come into this match with confidence sky-high as they seek to rejuvinate their faltering season in the league. Their away form currently reads as 2W 4D 8L, which doesn't give confidence to those who seek to back them. Nevertheless, a closer scrutiny on their recent form and stats will reveal that they have only lost twice in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

KWIK STATS
HOME > GENOA

AWAY > UDINESE

THE PICK
As much as i have to respect Genoa's ,
BOLOGNA looks capable of upsetting the form books to notch the much needed win at home. After all, Sampdoria are known to be poor travelers in the league.

22 Mar 2009: Wigan vs Hull

Game: WIGAN vs HULL
Type: PREMIER LEAGUE
Date: 22 March, 2009

PREVIEW
The last time these two met, Hull was handed a trashing by Wigan by a whopping 5-0 scoreline. It was a flattering scoreline to say the least as Hull had the majority of possession but Wigan capitalized on their mistakes to score those goals. Wigan has developed into a very organized and compact team, and difficult for opponents to break down. At home, they concede only 0.80 goals per game.

Hull will be aware of Wigan's stout defending, and will surely be looking for that early goal to open the match up. Stats are backing them to score, as in the last 17 away matches they have failed to score only 3 times. The visitors tend to play much better away than home, as attest by their home and away record. Will they be able to avenge defeat?

KWIK STATS
HOME > WIGAN

AWAY > HULL

THE PICK
Wigan is struggling to score goals of late, and i don't expect things to change here.
HULL will be going all out to ensure that the host doesn't get to do a 'double' over them - especially after the mauling from the previous meeting. Accept the handicap given and cheer for the away team!

21 Mar 2009: Portsmouth vs Everton

Game: PORTSMOUTH vs EVERTON
Type: PREMIER LEAGUE
Date: 21 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Portsmouth is having a season to forget as they struggle to remain afloat in the Premier League. Their performance has been mediocre at best and shocking at times. Nevertheless, their last 4 matches have given a glimmer of hope that they might be able to survive the relegation dog fight. Playmaker Krancjar seems to have found his passing range and this has enabled the team to lift their game.

4pts behind of Aston Villa, Everton will be looking for maximum points when they travel to Fratton Park. Since losing to Villa back in 17th Dec 2008, Everton has only lost once in their last 18 matches in all competitions! What's more remarkable is the fact that they have not conceded more than 1 goal per game during that stretch. This great run has enabled them to close into the top 6 with 10 matches to play.

KWIK STATS
HOME > PORTSMOUTH

AWAY > EVERTON

THE PICK
Everton might have won their last 2 but a closer look at their away stats shows the inability to score in their last 3. With Portsmouth averaging 1.25 goals at home, i'd have to go for
UNDER 2.5 goals as i don't see a goal fest happening here.

21 Mar 2009: Dortmund vs Bremen

Game: DORTMUND vs WERDER BREMEN
Type: BUNDESLIGA
Date: 21 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Dortmund holds the record of having the least losses this season - which currently stands at 4. Unfortunately, most of their matches have ended in draws, especially at home (9 times). To make matters worse, the home team have been struggling of late, winning only once in their last 11 in all competitions. Their inability to convert chances remain their main culprit, scoring only an average of 1.33 goals at home.

The 2-2 draw away against St Etienne in the mid-week UEFA Cup 2nd leg tie means that Bremen has now gone undefeated in their last 7. They have managed to remain unbeaten away in their last 4, scoring an average of 2.25 goals per away game! Confidence will be sky-high as they seek to gain as many points as possible in the final stretch of fixtures. Both teams are tied on head-to-head results in their past 4 matches.

KWIK STATS
HOME > DORTMUND

AWAY > BREMEN

THE PICK
Despite my earlier doubts,
the visitors have looked impressive in their midweek match away at St Etienne on Wednesday. BREMEN's recent uptrend should be good enough to inflict a disjointed Dortmund with their 1st home defeat of the season.

21 Mar 2009: Lille vs Grenoble

Game: LILLE vs GRENOBLE
Type: FRANCE LIGUE 1
Date: 21 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Unbeaten and not conceded in their last 3, Lille has steadily climbed into the top 6 and challenging for next season's European spot. Remarkable as it seems, they hold the best home record to date in the French Ligue 1, and remaining unbeaten in their last 14 matches at home. Lille averages 2.00 goals per game at home, which is pretty high in this league.

Their opponents, newly promoted Grenoble, should provide stiff competition to Lille. This is due to their consistent performance and gritty display which has made them difficult to break down. They remain unbeaten in their last 8 in all competitions, and conceding a measly 1.00 goal per game away. The last time both teams met it ended with 0-0.

KWIK STATS
HOME > LILLE

AWAY > GRENOBLE

THE PICK
At 1 ball handicap, GRENOBLE is definitely worth backing as i don't see Lille being able to overcome the stout defense of the newly promoted team easily.

21 Mar 2009: Leverkusen vs Frankfurt

Game: LEVERKUSEN vs FRANKFURT
Type: BUNDESLIGA
Date: 21 March, 2009

PREVIEW
With a margin of 12pts from Hertha and 10 more matches to go, Leverkusen's hope of mounting a challenge to the Bundesliga title is fading fast. Before the winter break, Leverkusen were showing promising signs of a team that is capable of winning the title. However, all that has gone to tathers as a mixture of tough fixtures and injuries has seen them slipping down to their current 7th position. Nevertheless, they still remain a potent team at home, averaging 2.00 goals per match to date.

Visitors Frankfurt has had a roller-coaster ride as far as form is concerned. Currently lying on 12th position, they have been unable to consistently perform at the required level. With only 3pts separating them from the relegation zone, Frankfurt will be hard pressed to grapple as many points as possible to avoid the drop zone. Fortunately for them, head-to-head record favours Frankfurt as they have only lost once in 4 meetings with Leverkusen.

KWIK STATS
HOME > LEVERKUSEN

AWAY > FRANKFURT

THE PICK
It has been four months since Leverkusen last won at home. With 10 games remaining,
LEVERKUSEN knows that they have to win against mediocre teams like Frankfurt in order to maintain their slim hope of a top 4 finish. Go with the home team to get their much needed win.

Friday, March 20, 2009

20 Mar 2009: Monchengladbach vs Bochum

Game: MONCHENGLADBACH vs BOCHUM
Type: GERMAN BUNDESLIGA
Date: 20 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Sitting precariously at 16th position, Monchengladbach knows that they will need to win as many matches as possible to avoid being relegated. They have been in good form lately, winning their last 2 matches by 4-2 and 4-1. Is this a sign of recovery? Their home scoring average is 1.58 goals per match but more defensively they are still struggling by conceding an average of 1.83.

Apart from Hannover, Bochum is the other remaining team in the league yet to register an away win. Nevertheless, the visitors have only lost 5 times out of 11 away matches. They will be hoping that history repeats itself in this match as they have never lost to Monchengladbach in the last 5 meetings.

KWIK STATS
HOME > MONCHENGLADBACH

AWAY > BOCHUM

THE PICK
Monchengladbach might be on a good run, but all good runs must come to an end.
BOCHUM sits just a rung above the home team, and they will be fighting for their lives to stay ahead and avoid the relegation zone. I'd go with them on the handicap.

Thursday, March 19, 2009

19 Mar 2009: Galatasaray vs Hamburg

Game: GALATASARAY vs HAMBURG
Type: UEFA CUP
Date: 19 March, 2009

PREVIEW
2nd leg tie resumes at the daunting Ali Sami Yen Stadium where Galatasaray hosts Hamburg with the tie delicately poised at 1-1. Galatasaray holds a good record against German teams, losing only once in the past 10 encounters - but drawing 7 of them in the process. The Turkish team will be hoping that the voracious supporters will provide them the extra impetus to edge Hamburg and qualify for the next round.

Visitors Hamburg have played 4 matches against Turkish opponents in Europe to date, and have yet to taste defeat. This stats should boost their confidence as they feel the full force of Galatasaray's home support. They have also yet to lose away in this year's competition, winning all four of their travels with a scoring average of 2.25 goals a match! Hamburg have yet to draw in their last 6 away matches in all competitions.

KWIK STATS
HOME > GALATASARAY
NO STATS AVAILABLE CURRENTLY.

AWAY > HAMBURG

THE PICK
Don't expect both teams to sit back, especially Hamburg. Should the tie end in 0-0, Galatasaray will qualify by virtue of the away goal. Hence, i would expect this match to be open with end-to-end attacks. I'd recommend
OVER 2.5 goals as both teams are capable of scoring but not defending.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

18 Mar 2009: St Etienne vs Werder Bremen

Game: ST ETIENNE vs WERDER BREMEN
Type: UEFA CUP
Date: 18 March, 2009

PREVIEW
St Etienne will be looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit at home to Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup Round of 16. Their European adventure have provided a stark contrast to their struggles in the French Ligue 1, where they currently occupy 18th spot with 10 more matches to go. In view of this, the home team will be expected to field a make-shift side as they prepare for this weekend's league match against Lorient.

Opponents Bremen comes into this game backed with a 6 match unbeaten streak. The Germans seem to have overcomed their early season jitters to regain confidence as they trashed rivals Stuttgart 4-0 in last week's Bundesliga match. Away from home, they have only won once in the league but are consistently scoring an average of 2.00 goals per away match. Bremen will be looking to wrap this tie up after the 1st leg win.

KWIK STATS
HOME > ST ETIENNE

AWAY > WERDER BREMEN

THE PICK
Despite Bremen's recovery in the Bundesliga to go unbeaten in their last 6, they have yet to convince many with their awful away form in general. ST ETIENNE are unbeaten at home in their last 8, and could still prove to be a handful for the Germans although not fielding a full-strength team. I'd accept the handicap given as a draw would be enough for Bremen to go through.

18 Mar 2009: Grenoble vs Monaco

Game: GRENOBLE vs MONACO
Type: FRANCE CUP
Date: 18 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Grenoble have surprised many with their consistent performance in Ligue 1 after winning promotion last season. A series of strong results have seen them climb up to their current 9th position
, staying unbeaten in their last 7. At home, they remain unbeaten in their last 4 but a closer look at their statistics shows that they tend to struggle to score - averaging a paltry 0.60 goals per home game. Overall, they have drawn more than their wins or losses.

Monaco, who sits 2 rungs below the home team in the league, have also shown improvement in their recent games. They remain unbeaten in their last 4 in all competitions, and lost only twice in their last 10. Both Grenoble and Monaco will view the Coupe de France as a backdoor qualification to Europe. Head to head results have been pretty balanced between these two, with both winning their home fixtures 1-0 when they last met.

KWIK STATS
HOME > GRENOBLE

AWAY > MONACO

THE PICK
Clashes between these two tend to be tight and evenly balanced, hence a punt on
UNDER 2.5 goals is the best call.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

17 Mar 2009: Arsenal vs Hull

Game: ARSENAL vs HULL
Type: ENGLISH FA CUP
Date: 17 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Arsenal is expected to rotate their team as they prepare to face Hull in this FA Cup quarterfinal tie. This comes after last week's midweek game against Roma which stretched to penalties, as well as the weekend's league match against Blackburn. Arsenal remains imperious at home, unbeaten in their last 13 and not conceding in their last 8 at home.

Opponents Hull will be looking to repeat their 2-1 win against the Gunners in the previous league match. Beaten only twice in their last 8 matches in all competitions, the Tigers have rediscovered their early season form to move away from the relegation zone. Currently unbeaten in their last 3 away, Hull will be looking to add Arsenal to their list of scalps here.

KWIK STATS
HOME > ARSENAL

AWAY > HULL

THE PICK
HULL is capable of giving Arsenal a torrid time by frustrating the Gunners from playing their usual attacking style. I'd expect this match to be closer than what most might be thinking although Arsenal might scrape through in the end, but not the handicap given.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

15 Mar 2009: Betis vs Osasuna

Game: REAL BETIS vs OSASUNA
Type: SPANISH LA LIGA
Date: 15 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Real Betis face Osasuna in a key relegation clash in Seville with both teams needing a win to distance themselves from the bottom. Despite losing only once in their last 7, Real Betis have only managed 6 draws out of them. More shocking is the fact that they conceded 16 goals in the process, which works out to an average of 2.29 goals per match!

Visitors Osasuna have also lost only once in their last 7, but have shown more resilience with their tight defensive play. This has allowed them to amass 12pts during that stretch to move within 3pts from Betis. They are also unbeaten in their last 3 away. In addition to this, Osasuna have won their encounters against Betis in their last 2 visits.

KWIK STATS
HOME > BETIS

AWAY > OSASUNA

THE PICK
With Betis conceding goals at an alarming rate, i'd favour
OSASUNA to get their 1st away win of the season and move level on points with the home team.

15 Mar 2009: Atalanta vs Torino

Game: ATALANTA vs TORINO
Type: ITALIAN SERIE A
Date: 15 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Atalanta's last 3 successive defeats have dampened their hope to move further up the table. In fact, they failed to score in the last 3 but conceded an alarming 6 goals. An additional bad omen for them is their poor head-to-head record against the visitors, winning only once in 8 attempts. Atalanta have yet to draw at home in their last 9.

Prior to last week's 0-1 defeat to Juventus, Torino were on a 7 match unbeaten run. They will be looking to bounce back in search of their first away win. The team will be upbeat as their defense have improved over the last 7 matches. Interestingly, Torino have drawn 4 out of last 5 visits to Bergamo.

KWIK STATS
HOME > ATALANTA

AWAY > TORINO

THE PICK
Despite Atalanta's loftier position in the league,
TORINO looks more than capable to turn the tables around the home team. Stats are also backing the visitors as Atalanta is rated only at 33.33% to win this match.

15 Mar 2009: Palermo vs Lecce

Game: PALERMO vs LECCE
Type: ITALIAN SERIE A
Date: 15 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Despite sitting comfortably at 9th position, Palermo's season form have largely been topsy-turvy. Wins are followed by losses and vice versa and they remain as the most unpredictable team in the league. At home, they have won 9 out of 13 games but yet to draw since the start of the league. Scoring should not be a problem as they average 1.71 goals per home game but their shabby defense have let them to concede an average of 1.50 goals.

Lecce are not faring any better themselves. Lying 2nd from the bottom, they have not scored in the last 5 matches - conceding an average of 1.80 per game! With 10 more league matches to go before the season ends, they look prime candidate for relegation.

KWIK STATS
HOME > PALERMO

AWAY > LECCE

THE PICK
Palermo did not score in their last 2 home games while Lecce have not scored the last 5, hence
OVER 2.5 goals is the best pick considering the defense frailties of both teams. A small punt of the fixed odds DRAW is worth a try too.

Saturday, March 14, 2009

14 Mar 2009: Nantes vs Lorient

Game: NANTES vs LORIENT
Type: FRENCH LIGUE 1
Date: 14 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Alarm bells are ringing at Nantes as a five match winless run has seen them plummeting to 16th position, just 3pts above the drop zone. With a scoring average of 1.07 goals at home, its hard to see how they are able get wins where needed. This fact is also compounded especially if they concede an average of 1.36 goals at home.

Visitors Lorient are no better. At the start of year, they were playing like a team ready to provide a genuine challenge for a finish in the European places. But they have slipped off the pace dramatically and are 9 games without a win. Worse still is the fact that they have not managed to find the back of the net in their last 3 matches, and are only two points above Nantes going into this weekend.

KWIK STATS
HOME > NANTES

AWAY > LORIENT

THE PICK
With tough
upcoming fixtures against Marseille, Lille and Toulouse, NANTES is aware that anything short of a win tonight would spell big trouble for them if they want to remain in Ligue 1. Luckily with Lorient's abysmal form, the home team stands a better chance of edging them.

14 Mar 2009: Everton vs Stoke City

Game: EVERTON vs STOKE CITY
Type: PREMIER LEAGUE
Date: 14 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Everton's come from behind win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup quarterfinals have stretched their unbeaten run on asian handicap to 12. They are also sitting comfortably at 6th position in the league with ambitions to make a late push to challenge for Champions League football. Their run is all the more amazing considering the amount of injuries that the team had to endure throughout the season. Despite this, they have laboured to win matches when it mattered, and are now reaping the fruits.

Stoke will also be buoyed by their recent improvement in form, especially in the scoring department where they have 2 goals each in their last 3 matches. They will be at full strength as Etherington returns after a 3 match ban. With a 10 day rest due to the FA Cup in the previous week, they will be hoping to capitalize on any slip-ups by the host.

KWIK STATS
HOME > EVERTON

AWAY > STOKE CITY

THE PICK
Despite Everton's loftier position in the league,
STOKE looks capable of upsetting the form book especially when most of the home team's wins are not more than a goal difference. With James Beattie on top form and the visitors unbeaten in their last 3, Everton might be in for a surprise if they take Stoke lightly.

14 Mar 2009: Hertha Berlin vs Leverkusen

Game: HERTHA BERLIN vs LEVERKUSEN
Type: BUNDESLIGA
Date: 14 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Is Hertha Berlin the real deal? This must be the question that lingers as the season heads toward the final stretch. Since their exit to Olympiakos in the UEFA Cup, Hertha have proved their resilience by notching a total of 13pts in their last 6 league matches to stay ahead of the chasing pack by four points - scoring a total of 11 goals in the process. Despite this, Hertha's defense were also exposed as they have conceded at least a goal in each match during that stretch.

Leverkusen will pose a threat to Hertha's ability to maintain the lead on top. The visitors boast the best away record in the Bundesliga, with an impressive scoring average of 2.00 goals per match. This stats will surely provide a stern test to Hertha's back four.

KWIK STATS
HOME > HERTHA BERLIN

AWAY > LEVERKUSEN

THE PICK
Both teams are capable of winning this tie. However, with key players out on both sides,
OVER 2.5 goals is the best call. This is also reinforced by the fact that 9 out of 10 meetings between these two teams have always produced lots of goals.

14 Mar 2009: Arsenal vs Blackburn

Game: ARSENAL vs BLACKBURN
Type: ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Date: 14 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Having just edged Roma via the penalty shoot-out in the recent Champions League clash, the Gunners return to the Emirates Stadium to host a resurgent Blackburn team. Arsenal will be expected to continue their great run of form at home, where they remain unbeaten unbeaten in their last 12. Even more staggering is the fact that they have managed not to concede any goals in their last 7 home matches. Arsenal also enjoys an excellent head-to-head record against Blackburn, winning all 4 ties against the visitors by 2 goals or more. More importantly, a win here will move them level on points with Aston Villa, who currently occupy the coveted 4th spot.

Despite the above, Blackburn will be looking to improve their run where they have only lost twice in their last 11 league outings. They have recently won their last 2 away matches, outwitting both Hull and Fulham by 2-1 scorelines. Knowing that Arsenal will probably be rotating a few of their players due to their midweek European encounter, Blackburn will be looking to take advantage of the situation in the hope to spring a surprise.

KWIK STATS
HOME > ARSENAL

AWAY > BLACKBURN

THE PICK
Despite Blackburn's recent upturn in form to crawl their way out of the relegation zone,
ARSENAL is still too formidable for Blackburn to pose any threat - especially when the visitors have injuries to their key players such as Santa Cruz, Pedersen and Emerton. I'd expect the 1st half to be close but with the Gunners slick passing, Blackburn's defense will wear down by the 2nd half and concede.

Friday, March 13, 2009

13 Mar 2009: Wolfsburg vs Schalke 04

Game: WOLFSBURG vs SCHALKE
Type: German Bundesliga
Date: 13 March, 2009

PREVIEW
Wolfsburg current league position (4th) has been a surprise to many. This is largely due to their home form which currently reads 10W 1D 0L, putting them ahead of the rest as far as points collected at home is concerned. With a scoring average of 2.65 goals per home game, they have disposed of many and would be hoping for the same against Schalke. Nevertheless, their last 5 home matches have seen them being beaten twice which might be a signal of hope for visitors to VW Arena Stadium.

On the contrary, Schalke have not been at their best - bagging mixed results over the course of the season. They currently lie on 8th position and would be desperate for a win in this match to close the gap with the leading pack. There's a sign of hope though with their recent upturn in form by grabbing 7 points from their last 3 matches.

KWIK STATS
HOME > WOLFSBURG

AWAY > SCHALKE

THE PICK
Stats have unveiled that Wolfsburg have yet to draw at home in their last 15
, while Schalke in their last 5 away. I'd have to go with SCHALKE to grab a point at least from this tie due to their good head-to-head record against the home team also.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

12 Mar 2009: Hamburg vs Galatasaray

Game: HAMBURG vs GALATASARAY
Type: UEFA CUP
Date: 12 March, 2009

PREVIEW
AOL Arena hosts the UEFA Cup round of 16 between Hamburg and Galatasaray. The host were impressive in the 2 leg demolition of Dutch team NEC Nijmegen in the previous round. However, things started taking the wrong turn thereafter when they lost both league games, conceding seven goals in the process. The sudden dip in form must be a worry for Martin Jol as the team have since slipped down to 5th in the Bundesliga standing. Interestingly, they have not drawn in their last 12 home matches.

Visitors Galatasaray disposed French outfit Bordeaux in the previous round, and subsequently winning their next 2 league matches as well. Despite their turnaround in form as opposed to the early season in the Turkish league, they are still prone to defensive lapses - especially in away games. They will be hoping to muster all their previous European match experience to get a positive result at Hamburg to bring back to the daunting Ali Sami Yen Stadium.

KWIK STATS
HOME > HAMBURG

AWAY > GALATASARAY
NO STATS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

THE PICK
Hamburg's shock defeat to Monchengladbach must be a dampener to their preparations for this match. Their defense are in shambles but so does Galatasaray. I'd expect both teams to try to outscore each other in view of this. Hence, best bet would be to go for OVER 2.5 goals
